The energy management on board was a critical topic during the 35th America's Cup campaign. The ressources allocation was a key point, between the wing and the foiling systems. Oracle took the decision to keep a mechanic/hydraulic solution which required a switching capability from one to the other. 100% of the onboard energy was human powered and it was fundamental to optimise the switching time and interface.

 

The main goal was to produce the maximum oil pressure without compromising on the wing trimming. To help this transition we developed a set of clutches using diverse technologies. The final product was able to operate a switch under 100ms.
